The Inn at Schoolhouse Creek is the oldest resort on the Mendocino stretch of the North Coast.In the 1980’s, owners Peter Freary and Linda Wilson revitalized the old gardens, uncovered historical features, and incorporated the old Ledford Home into the resort. Additions to the Inn continued under Al & Penny Greenwood who opened three new units: Garden Cottage, Captain’s Watch and Whale Watch. The opening of the Water Tower in the Fall of 2002 brings the property to its current state.

Area Attractions and Activities:

One could spend a day, a week or two, exploring and experiencing the wonder and natural beauty of the Mendocino Coast.

The charming village of Mendocino, with its many fine galleries, restaurants and shops, is close by. The surrounding area offers rivers, harbors, beaches and spectacular state parks for exploring the natural beauty of the area, as well as wine tasting in the nearby Anderson Valley.

Art gallery touring, botanical gardens and nature exploring, Skunk Train riding, kayaking, canoeing, horseback riding, shopping, or just simply relaxing in the different pace of Mendocino are some of the attractions of the area.

With our close location to the ocean, whale watching is an event for the whole family. Each year the majestic California Gray Whales pass by the Point Arena Lighthouse as they migrate to and from the warm lagoons of Mexico. They are particularly close inshore on the return migration from Baja when females may be seen loitering by the rocks nursing their calves.

Most Popular Rooms:

Captain's Watch: Has a king feather bed, spa tub, microwave, refrigerator and gas fireplace. Of course, Captain's Watch has a panoramic ocean view and a deck.

Garden Cottage: Private and secluded. Has a spa tub, queen feather bed, gas fireplace and a wall of windows facing the garden and creek side. There is a large deck for relaxing.

Check In Instructions:

After 7 pm please call 707-937-5525. Go to the guest reception area. There are instructions on the door. Right by the door is a mailbox with a key and map to room.

Reservation Notes:

Cancellation Policy If it is necessary to cancel or change any of the nights reserved you will be charged a $25 administrative fee per room canceled. For cancellations with less than 14 days' notice (30 days for Shangri La and Sea Cloud) or early departure you will be charged the full room rate for all nights reserved unless we are able to re-book the room. Last minute cancellations and early departures due to inclement weather are not refundable.
