Bed and Breakfast Description

Berkshires Shirakaba is a Japanese-American guest house set on a wooded ridgetop in the far western Massachusetts village of New Ashford.

In this unique B&B you'll fall asleep to the hoot of an owl and greet the morning with a breakfast you've chosen from a western or Japanese menu. Maybe you'll stroll to the gazebo and sip your coffee with the surrounding colors of the season and the natural beauty of the Berkshires all around.

Invest some energy in the indoor heated lap pool; it will come back to you with interest. In winter there's a 6–person spa by the pool, but when spring arrives it moves outdoors for you to bask under the stars. Stroll a path to the gazebo and gaze from its clifftop at the hills and vales upholstered in woodland velvet.

Meander upstairs to Ume No Ma, the Plum Room, a perfect hideaway for meditating, yoga, enjoying a book or a board game, and even dining and sleeping in the traditional Japanese way with a low table and a tatami mat floor.

You're not in Japan. But almost. Options abound. Book a private function, or a lesson in rolling sushi with your Japanese host, Sadao. Give us 48 hours' notice and we'll welcome you for a gourmet dinner, whether you stay overnight or not.
