Bed and Breakfast Description

It's time to get away to a place of exquisite beauty and perfectly fresh air. Sometimes wild, always changing, you will be surrounded by the glorious ancient Appalachian Mountain ridges of North Carolina's High Country, Virginia's Highlands and Tennessee's Mountain Empire. Just 25 min. to Boone, NC.

The solid brick mansion, which impressed Mountain City in 1889, features gas log fireplaces in your room--take the chill off and lend romance. Sunshine streams through stained glass windows. Pour in the bubble bath and let the jetted tubs wash away the tension. There is tranquility and relaxation here. Our rooms are private and peaceful, and well thought out to meet your needs for time away from "life."

A lovely breakfast of fresh foods, good conversation around the 1910 oak banquet table awaits. Then you are off to explore caverns, a winery, hike, bike or drive a trail, fish, golf, shop. Relax... where worries are small and enjoyment great.

Amenities: Romance rooms feature whirlpool tubs and fireplaces. Deluxe rooms have over-sized showers, clawfoot tub. Queen or king beds. Historic stained glass, tall ceilings and great mountain views. Some with private entrances, balcony, stained and colored glass windows. All rooms: cable TV, individual heat/air and ceiling fans, robes, scented candles, snack basket and full breakfast.

Our Cottage in the Woods is sometimes available (very popular) for kids, dogs and larger groups. Our wedding room is perfect for your destination wedding.

Hiking,* trout fishing, skiing, galleries, Virginia Creeper Trail (bikes and horseback riding), Appalachian Trail, Roan Mountain, Blue Ridge Parkway, High Country, NC, sites such as Grandfather Mountain, fall leaves, history, lake boating, scenic drives, local crafts.

**Hike our private 43 acres of rolling land or 30 acres of forest. Fish our stream (off site) where Tom Dooley was arrested (fishing is more fun! Tn. lic.required).

Smell the evergreens and fresh air. Enjoy the stars and summer fireflies in our lovely garden (suitable for smaller weddings). Rent a boat on the lake or bikes for the downhill trail (or bring your own).

Shop in quaint local stores such as Trade Mill which grinds local grain. Take in the mountain views. Winter skiing. Summer picnics. Our porch swing and garden fountain. Cicadas strumming. Gentle snowfalls create a wonderland.

Romance rooms #1,2,&4: whirlpool tubs, fireplaces, mountain views, snuggly robes, great breakfasts, in-room TV, DVD, Mp3, wireless, central heat, a/c, ceiling fan. Quiet. Relaxation, Space and privacy. Add an Ultimate Ice Cream sundae or strawberries.

Deluxe #3 and 5: Value priced, large, with big shower or shower and antique tub. Queen bed, cable TV, VCR, central heat/air, ceiling fan, breakfast, snacks. #5 has balcony with high-end view. (Smoking OK on balcony.) Can add twin bed these room (fee).

Check In Instructions:

Late check in available. Let us know. We are available until 11 pm. Thereafter--no problem. Information details provided directly to guest on a case by case basis. Room #1 has own exterior door.Cottage uses key box for self-check in.
