Bed and Breakfast Description

Our six acre resort offers privacy as well as a panoramic view of Mount Desert's mountains and seascape. In addition to the historic main building, we offer memorable dining, cottages, tennis court, dock, moorings, glorious sunsets and of course croquet.

The are 24 comfortable, tastefully decorated rooms in the main building, six additional rooms in the Phillips House and 14 housekeeping cottages. When the hotel is open, breakfast and dinner are served in the dining room from which every table has a view of the mountains and ocean.

Jackets are suggested for dinner, but not required. Lunch and sunset cocktails are served during July and August at the Shorefront Boathouse.

Area Attractions and Activities:

Activities at the hotel include a clay tennis court, two tournament grade croquet courts, bicycles, dock, guest moorings, rowboats and library. Mt. Desert Island is the home to the greater part of Acadia National Park.

The hotel is within a five minute drive to the nearest entry to the park and twenty minutes from the farthest, Bar Harbor. Park resources and nearby activities include fresh and salt water swimming, hiking, kayaking, carriage trail biking, sailing and guided boat tours, golfing, summer theatre and concerts.

Most Popular Rooms:

Our most popular accommodations are the Wentworth Cottages. Located on the shore with commanding views of Somes Sound, these one room efficiencies with deck and fireplace are reserved well in advance.

Waterside rooms: In the Hotel and Phillips House - very popular. These simply decorated, comfortable rooms take full advantage of the eastern sunrise over Greenings Island as well as one of the grandest scenes on the eastern seaboard.
