Cripple Creek sits on the southwest slopes of majestic Pikes Peak in the beautiful Colorado Rockies. More than 100 years ago tens of thousands of gold-seekers were drawn to its hillsides in search of their fortunes. The gold mines are a part of Cripple Creek’s colorful history, and visitors can choose from a variety of many rich and wonderful experiences here.
The Cripple Creek High School (now Carr Manor) was one of 17 school sites in the Mining District and today is one of only two original schools still standing. The other is the Victor High School located in the City of Victor. The High School was built in two phases; the southern 90 feet of the school was built in 1897; the northern portion containing the Gym and Auditorium was completed in 1905. It served as one of two Cripple Creek schools for over 70 years.
