![]() This magnificent Greek revival manor is among Charleston’s finest offerings. The grounds are lush with gardens and manicured lawns and ionic columns adorn the impressive exterior. The innkeeper is a retired interior designer, and his elegant touch is found throughout the mansion. Our chef prepares the breakfasts, which are served in a solarium with hand painted murals and 12-foot windows. The chef’s recipe for cornmeal waffles was featured in a Better Homes & Gardens’ cookbook. The Greek revival mansion was built in the 1830's, and was one of the first houses in the country to have indoor plumbing. Like most Charleston houses though, it had fallen into a state of disrepair by the late 1960's. The present owners, renowned interior decorators whose clients have included the leading families in the country, turned its restoration into a nearly 30-year project. From meticulously removing globs of paint from some of the finest woodwork in Charleston, to installing air conditioning throughout, no detail has been neglected. The house is only part of the experience. It is furnished with museum quality American antiques. Some of them have been passed down in the owners' families, others acquired during a lifetime of work with the finest of furniture and interior decor. Area Attractions and Activities: Beautiful gardens, homes, public buildings, churches, a lot of water front beaches, and the food is world class!
