| "My wife and I returned from a wonderful weekend in the Woodstocker Inn. The booking process itself was very pleasant. Often quite a formal process, the response to our inquiry by the Inn keepers set the tone for a very pleasant stay.
As mentioned by other reviewers, the Woodstocker is not your usual "old country style" decorated B&B usually found replicated in the "New" country. Instead, it is a place with bold colors - but not off-putting - and very comfortable, modern amenities. The pictures on the website don't do it full justice, it is even better in reality (go check it out!).
Upon arrival we were welcomed by Dora and David and we did feel at home immediately, a feeling they created not only by their way of welcoming us but also by the way the B&B is set up. It is nicely decorated and has spacious rooms (we were able to take peaks in rooms that weren't occupied since doors are left ajar when the rooms are available), has an extensive library indicating the proprietors previous career in publishing, and a fantastic music collection. The 24h available kitchen to make your own coffee, tea or cocao was further enhanced by David's delicious scones, muffins, and outstanding British fruitcake. For all you fruitcake haters, I challenge you....
Breakfast was excellent with organic yoghurt, home made muesli and compote, or the real deal; a full english breakfast. Local produce is used for everything.
We were given great recommendations for dinner, found our own way to Winand's chocolatier (wow), and everything is in walking distance. The Inn is at the edge of downtown and one can sleep in peace and quiet.
Considering the fact that Dora and David have only operated this B&B for a few years, it is even more amazing that they have received so many accolades. We have to agree with all of them and highly recommend the Woodstocker Inn." - Newhaven CT - February 08 "As a New Yorker, I have found it most distressing when, skipping town for a "breather", to then eagerly arrive in the desired, otherwise refreshing surroundings, only to end up enduring musty carpets, dusty drapes, harsh chemical "cleansers" , and so -called air "fresheners" in a hotel or b&b. Manhattan bus fumes notwithstanding, I've ended up having to flee a chemically sickening "vacation" to restore my lungs inside our consciously eco-friendly apartment on Broadway! Whether visiting a city or the countryside, the notion of "green" lodgings is a godsend for me, as, of course, it is for our planet. We arrived at The Woodstocker strained and exhausted from a long stretch of care giving for our respective elderly parents, who had endured simultaneous health crises. Especially under these circumstances, what a relief it was to be embraced as regular folks who are fully human, rather than treated coolly as "anti-family" because we happen to be a same-sex couple---of almost 25 years, no less! We don't yet have marriage equality, but no one can stop us from enjoying as many honeymoons as we can.The Woodstocker is a safe, clean, delightful, whimsical, delicious and inviting haven for all peace-loving people of good will. Dora, David, and furry Stanley are gifted hosts: helpful, intelligent and available, yet not hovering (except, perhaps, sweetiepie Stanley when she is eager to be petted and patted at length!) Unless you are so unfortunate as to be allergic to dogs, go to the Woodstocker, and breathe!" - Bracha N.Y.C. - January 08 |
