Wisconsin House
Hazel Green, Wisconsin.
An historic, comfortably furnished bed and breakfast, we're located just 10 miles north of Galena, Illinois, 13 miles west of Dubuque, Iowa, and 15 miles south of Platteville, Wisconsin. So close, so different! Stay with us and enjoy each of them.
Bed and Breakfast Description

The inn was built in 1846 as a stagecoach stop. Then Hazel Green was a bustling frontier village. Lead mining was the boom industry and smelting and moving the ingots to the east placed Hazel Green on the well-traveled road. Soon though, the miners would chase after gold in California, and the area would go into a boom and bust cycle depending on the demand for lead.
Today a few of the lead mines remain open as tourist attractions, and Hazel Green is a bedroom community for Galena and Dubuque and Platteville. The inn situated at the center of town offers its comforts to those who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of staying in Galena, Dubuque or Platteville.
The inn offers eight rooms for your comfort most with private bath. We serve a hearty, full breakfast each morning; many say it will lasts them till dinner. Snacks and soft drinks are available at any time.
During the warmer weather the garden and gazebo offer a refuge after a day of visiting the attractions of the area.
The restaurants of the area provide meals for every taste--fast food, home cooking, the supper club experience, as well as fine dining--with just as diverse ambiences. Our recommendations are free for the asking.
Ken and Pat Disch, innkeepers, invite you to browse the Wisconsin House Stage Coach Inn web site, visit the rooms, and call or e-mail with your questions or reservations. We look forward to your visit!

Area Attractions and Activities:
Most guests at the inn come to enjoy visiting Galena, Illinois. Famous for its 1850's architecture, Galena was the river and market town of the lead mining area. The river silted up at Galena and by the Civil War, Dubuque was the merchants' headquarters.
The Victorian architecture in both cities is worth seeing. The Mississippi River and the parks along it--Mississippi Palisades, Pikes Peak, Efigy Mounds, Nelson Dewey, Wyalusing- are all within an hour or two and offer unique hiking and birdwatching opportunities.
Today Dubuque has developed its waterfront into a tourist attraction. America's River Museum is a must see. Providing a look into the history of the Upper Mississippi River and the biology and ecology of the entire river. For those inclined the Diamon Jo Casino is right next store and a short walk along the levee will bring you to the Star Restaurant and Brewery.
Nearby Potosi has the restored Potosi Brewery and Museum. If you are a home brewer, it's a must see.
Most Popular Rooms:
The Mississippi Room: A dormered room decorated with ducks and river scenes. With balcony facing the village park the room is airy and bright. The king size bed and sitting area with sofa and chairs, offers a comfortable feeling of coziness and roominess
The 2-Bit Suite: The third floor of the historic part of the inn. 40 feet long, there's a king size canopy bed on one side and a full size bed with 2 day beds on the other. Ideal for a family, or a group of friends or just two people who want to get away.
