Bed and Breakfast Description

Arriving at Capps Cove is like coming upon a hidden 19th century settlement. Shaded grounds and well-tended gardens connect a cluster of handcrafted buildings — a secluded retreat created a decade ago by Cason and Sybil Capps, and reflecting their love of antiques and simple pleasures. Historical architecture with contemporary amenities.

A big red barn serves as the meetinghouse and site of wedding receptions. A white picket fence welcomes you to the small wedding chapel with an antique pump organ. There's the playhouse where people often gather for smaller events. And there are quaint rustic cabins that offer lodging. At the end of the road, white columns welcome guests to the southern colonial Capps Cove Bed and Breakfast, and a tradition of old-fashioned southern hospitality.

When you cross the wide, front porch and enter the main house, you step back in time. A large foyer holds a Victorian baby carriage and an early 1900 Edison cylinder phonograph. The parlor or music room is home to a piano, violin, autoharp, guitar, and an assortment of cylinder music boxes.

The sitting room has a comfortable sofa, two fireside chairs, a fireplace with antique mantel, and a collection of unusual oil lamps along with an oak schoolmaster's desk. A wide, screened porch is a shady getaway on a quiet afternoon.

Guests gather around the large dining room table for a bountiful breakfast. In the spring and summer, breakfast may be served on the screened porch.

Area Attractions and Activities:

Blount County is the "Covered Bridge Capitol of Alabama" with three historical, easily accessible bridges near Capps Cove. Horton Mill Bridge, the highest covered bridge above water in America. Easley Covered Bridge, the oldest bridge in the county. Swann Covered Bridge, the longest covered bridge in the state. Noccalula Falls cascades over 90 feet into the Black Creek ravine.

Ride the authentic Huntington miniature train through beautiful botanical gardens. This is also the starting point for the 450-mile yard sale each August. Located at an elevation of 1300 ft. atop Ebell Mountain, Palisades Park covers 90 acres. It features four hiking trails, two pioneer cabins, a schoolhouse, arboretum and farm museum. Three White Water Rivers — Blackburn, Locust Fork and Mulberry. Rickwood Caverns State Park is the only caving park in the entire State Park System. Take a cave tour and experience the thrill of a mile of 260 million-year-old limestone underground caverns.

Honeymoon Cabin: From the porch you can see and hear the creek. Antique bed, reclining love seat, stone fireplace, refrigerator, soft drinks, water, cheese, microwave oven, coffeemaker, teas and coffee. The bath has soaps, robes, and plenty of towels.

Little House on the Prairie Cabin: Rustic mountain cabin with rough wood walls and floor, stone fireplace, sleeping loft with a bed upstairs and a bedroom downstairs, refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, rocking chairs, back porch.
