Nestled in the heart of Mount Vernon, Ohio, America's Hometown, is this remarkable high Victorian mansion, Circa 1830. It is home to the fifth generation family and a National Award Winning Bed and Breakfast.

Bed and Breakfast Description

The house is the former home of two prominent Ohio families. Dr. John Russell, physician and surgeon, was the first American to employ a female physician, Dr. Jane Payne, in 1852. His son-in-law, colonel William Cooper, a colonel in the Civil War with the Ohio Volunteer Infantry, had a distinguished career as an attorney, U.S. Congressman and Ohio Adjutant General.

The Russell-Cooper House has undergone a faithful and loving restoration to its Victorian era of elegance. In addition to its unique furnishings and decorations, visitors will find a fascinating array of historical Russell-Cooper memorabilia, Civil War items, antique medical devices, rare books and more.

Begin your stay with a warm welcome by the Innkeeper, who will make your stay a memorable one.

The elegance and character of the Russell-Cooper House is revealed in its high embossed ceilings, rich cherry, maple and walnut, classic etched and stained glass windows, and its many marble and carved cherry mantle fireplace. Curl up in the library or watch the birds from the four seasons sun room.

Six delightfully decorated guest rooms await you, with private baths, and theme decor. We have recently added an outdoor Hot Tub for your relaxing pleasure !

For the Business Traveler we are able to meet several of your special requirements. We currently have Fax service, and new Wireless Internet. A number of other services may be available upon request, please include them in the reservation request form.

Take a bike ride down the country road, go for a horseback ride on 75 rolling acres, have a swim in the pool, read a good book by the fireplace, or golf nearby.

Antiquing and shopping are just minutes away. Convenient to Kenyon College and Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

Most Popular Rooms:

Rose Room: As the name denotes, there are several items featuring roses in this room. From lamps, bedding, pictures, right down to the paint on the textured walls, roses can be found abundantly in the decor.

Colonel's room: named after Col. Wm. C. Cooper. There are several of the colonel's personal effects that are kept in this room; including civil war documents.
