 The Inn combines two restored houses. The larger house was built in 1856 The building was a private residence for many years, and then for several decades it led a checkered career - girls' finishing school, brothel, boarding house. The transformation to an inn was completed in 1986. The smaller house, known as the 'cottage,' was built in 1890. It was a private home and boarding house until it became part of the Inn in the 1980's. English and Belgian antiques fill every room. Many rooms have whirlpool baths, fireplaces and canopy beds. Suites with living rooms are also available. Every room has a private bath. A continental breakfast is served featuring an array of home-baked breads and coffee cakes. Enjoy it on the garden patio or veranda or in the cozy library. Be our guest in the afternoon for wine and cheese. A new 2nd floor public room with fireplace was recently completed. 200 South Street Inn, centrally located near Thomas Jefferson's Monticello and the University of Virginia (UVA), offers a combination of modern conveniences and old world charm. Area Attractions and Activities: Located in a downtown historic district, there is much to do in the area. Visit the mall filled with antique shops, bookstores, movie theaters, and restaurants. President's homes, indoor ice skating rink, hiking, biking, taverns and wineries. Services: Sitting room, fireplaces, library, whirlpool tubs, TV Most Popular Rooms: Room 8: A favorite of many of our guests, this is a large room on the second floor with a queen size canopy bed, fireplace and whirlpool tub. Room 2: A larger ground floor room with a queen four poster bed, fireplace, two leather armchairs and a whirlpool bath.
