Built in 1818 by Horace Hayden, a merchant and shipbuilder, this exceptional Colonial Home welcomes guests seeking gracious hospitality and well appointed accommodations in a secluded setting in the middle of town. The Inn offers six guest rooms, four with open fireplaces, and a suite with a sauna. All have private baths.
Tastefully furnished, each floor of the Inn has its own comfortable sitting area for conversation, reading and other restful pursuits. Known for its excellent kitchen, ample breakfasts are included with your room. The Inn is a perfect spot to plan your day. The Kagels maintain an up to date library of area offerings and can help you with information about the latest activities.

Area Attractions and Activities:
Visitors will find it difficult to see and do everything that East Haddam, the lower Connecticut River Valley and the shoreline have to offer... In addition to the Goodspeed Opera House's renowned musical productions, the Historical Society Museum, Gillette Castle and Devils Hopyard State Parks are all nearby. Restaurants, many antique, craft, gift and book shops are in the area. Riding, tennis, golf and state parks for swimming, hiking and picnicking are available as well as cruises and canoe trips on the Connecticut River.
A few minutes away is Historic Essex with its beautiful harbor, wonderful old houses, intriguing shops, the Essex Art Gallery, and the Connecticut River Foundation Museum at Steamboat Dock. A steam engine train and boat excursions are popular attractions.
The Florence Griswold Museum (the home of the Connecticut Impressionists), the Old Lyme Art Gallery, Mystic Seaport Museum and Marinelife Aquarium are not far away.

Director's Suite: The suite has a brass and wrought iron king size bed, cathedral ceiling and a large bathroom with a dressing area and sauna. The suite also has a private deck that overlooks the garden.
Fireplace Rooms: The four fireplace rooms have queen size beds and ample sitting space to relax in front of the fire (in season). Air conditioned in the summer, they have private baths and access directly to comfortable sitting areas.
