Bed and Breakfast Accommodations

Sequoia National Park, California bed and breakfast: Plantation Bed & Breakfast

For over one hundred years, this 4,500 square foot home on twenty acres of orange groves was known as the Mesa Verde Citrus Plantation. In 1996, the Plantation House was transformed into the Plantation B & B on one and a half acres of the original twenty. Take a step back in time when you walk into the original settlers' house, built from river rock in 1880.

Stroll through the lawns and Grove Park, and see not only orange trees, but grapefruit, plum, apricot, cherry, lemon, tangerine, avocado, fig, pear, pomegranate, apple, nectarine, banana and olive trees, as well as grapevines and herb and vegetable gardens that provide the freshest produce possible.

Recline in an Adirondack chair under a weeping willow, laze in a hammock suspended between palm trees, and enjoy the birds and butterflies flitting among the many blossoming vines, shrubs, flowers and ornamental and shade trees.

The most common daily complaint at The Plantation is: Guests are upset that they only made a reservation for 1 night instead of 2 or 3. "Why?", Scott and Marie ask and always get 1, 2 or all 3 of the following reasons: 1. The Plantation is the nicest B and B they have ever stayed. 2. Chef Marie's gourmet breakfast is the best they have ever had. 3. They didn't realize that they had easy access from The Plantation to Sequoia National Park, King's Canyon National Park and Mineral King and that each park was a full day's adventure and all so very different from each other.

Area Attractions and Activities:

At Giant Forest, in Sequoia Park, is the General Sherman Tree - the largest tree in the world, 275 ft high and 103 ft around. The second largest tree in the world, the General Grant, is located at Grant Grove in Kings Canyon. Both parks provide a hiker's domain of spectacular peaks, canyons, lakes and streams, threaded with a thousand miles of trails.

Connecting the two national parks is the General's Hwy, a 46 mile long scenic road from Ash Mountain through Giant Forest to Grant Grove. The highway and branch roads take you to such attractions as Moro Rock, Crystal Cave, Crescent Meadow, Big Stump Grove and Roaring Fork Falls. Lake Kaweah, only 2 miles from the Plantation, offers boating, fishing and water sports, or visit Mineral King, a peaceful valley beneath the peaks of the Great Western Divide.

Other area attractions include cave tours, white water rafting, cross country skiing, horseback riding, golf, Cat Haven wild animal park, Squaw Valley Herb Gardens, and the Doll Nest.

Most Popular Rooms:

Scarlett O'Hara: Has taken the nicest suite for herself. Snuggle up in front of the fireplace in the king bed. Relax on her veranda above the world below. Sit in the Jacuzzi in the marble bathroom surrounded by faux tower "windows".

Belle Watling: Has a bordello atmosphere in lush burgundy tones with a king bed. A romantic clawfoot tub with shower sits in the room. Step onto her veranda and watch the sun go down behind the foothills while relaxing in the wicker rocking chairs.
