The Silvermine Tavern

Norwalk, Connecticut.

From its creaky wooden floors and venerable ancestor paintings to its traditional New England hospitality and antique canopy beds, the Silvermine Tavern is everything a country inn should be: warm, friendly, inviting and brimming with charm.

Bed and Breakfast Description

Norwalk, Connecticut bed and breakfast: The Silvermine Tavern

Silvermine Tavern rooms are furnished with American country antiques, collected by John Kenneth Byard, a noted advisor to the collections of Deerfield Village and Henry Ford as well as the proprietor of the renowned Silvermine Tavern and Antique Galleries from 1929 until 1947. Much of the art in the guest rooms is original work by Dorothy Randolph Byard, the proprietor’s wife who was an accomplished poet, writer and artist as well as an artist-member of the Silvermine Guild. The bathrooms are equipped with comfortable old-time fixtures including some claw foot tubs. Hooked rugs, candlewick spreads, antique beds and historic prints make staying in our guest rooms feel like a visit to another era. Each room has a jar of cracked corn to feed the always-hungry ducks, a happy-massager for relaxation and is air conditioned.
