South Shire Inn
Bennington, Vermont.
Elegant Victorian Inn offering luxurious accommodations, private baths, A/C and fireplaces. Walk to restaurants, shops and historic sites. Full breakfast served.
Bed and Breakfast Description

Ten-foot ceilings, a mahogany paneled library with ornately carved fireplace, leaded glass pocket doors and bookcases, and the raised plaster moldings of the dining room make the South Shire a showpiece of the Victorian Era. The main house, formerly the private residence of Louis A. Graves, was the creation of architect, William C. Bull who designed many of the stately Victorian structures in Bennington.
Located in the Heart of Historic Bennington, the South Shire Inn offers the corporate traveler the comforts of an elegant, turn-of-the-century home combined with the necessities of business.
Nine spacious guest rooms, all with private bath, telephone, work area, air conditioning and some with whirlpool baths and fireplaces provide the ultimate in comfort and convenience. Our mahogany panelled library provides a place to read, relax, exchange ideas with colleagues, or perhaps indulge in a challenging game of backgammon or chess.
Enjoy a full breakfast, including homemade muffins, juice, fresh fruit, coffee and chef"s choice of entree to fuel up for a busy day. Although the South Shire Inn does not serve dinner, we would be happy to make arrangements at any one of the area's fine dining establishments.
The South Shire Inn is well suited for intimate gatherings of up to 20 people. Informal fireside meetings in our library add a touch of warmth to the driest of topics. Escape to the outdoors on a warm summer day by solving company problems over iced tea on our verandah.
