Washington, North Carolina bed and breakfast: Moss House

Located one block from the Pamlico River and steeped in local history, this beautiful 1902 Victorian home, with its wide veranda and beautiful garden, provides the closest accommodations to historic downtown Washington.

The Moss House is comfortable with an eclectic coastal style mixed with antiques and original artwork. Four individually designed guest rooms, each with private bath, offer you refreshing rest and comfortable beds with extra pillows, as well as central air and ceiling fans. Two of our rooms offer a king bed and two offer a queen bed, several of the original mantles and tiled fireplaces are in guest rooms and the common rooms. A two-block walk leads to shops, the sailboat marina, a variety of restaurants, and a wonderful café for coffee and dessert. The Moss House also marks the starting point of the city's self-guided historic walking tour.

The Moss House features a full breakfast, highlighted by traditional Southern favorites with a gourmet touch.Some of our choices may include,Baked Blueberry French Toast,Spiced Oatmeal Pancakes, Fluffy baked Eggs with Sweet Potato Hash or Moss House Apple /Sage Sausage. These hearty entrées, accented by our own Moss House Blend freshly ground coffee, seasonal fresh fruit, and an assortment of muffins and breads baked in-house, will prepare you for a full day, whether your agenda calls for business or leisure pursuits.

    Area Attractions and Activities:

    The Moss House is listed in the Historic Register and is on the Washington Historic Walking Tour.

    Washington is a waterway to the Atlantic Ocean and offers all the amenities of a coastal community. The City of Washington allows 48-hour free docking and slips for a fee with water and electricity, along Stewart Parkway's river walk. Sailing is a popular pastime here. You'll find several excellent marinas catering to boaters' needs.

    Washington's activities include the North Carolina Estuarium, an educational center on the river ecosystem with a board walk through turtle ponds and other wildlife. Also just 15 minutes by car, plan to visit Goose Creek State Park, for hiking, picnics and swimming. We are 25 minutes from Historic Bath, the oldest town in NC and home of Blackbeard the Pirate. Washington is only 65 miles from the ferry to Okracoke and the outer banks.

    A visitor center in town can provide you with plenty of information to keep you busy.


    Most Popular Rooms:

    Our largest room is the light and airy Pamlico River Room. This room has a view of the garden and provides a sitting area for two, with comfortable chairs and ample lighting. The room has a large master bath with a tub/shower, double sinks and cozy robes.

    The Estuary room, a queen bedroom with original artwork, a desk and antique headboard is a favorite with guests. This room has one of the original mantels with handmade green tiles and soothing yellows and blues. It offers a newly remodeled private bath.
