![]() The origins of our building go back to the late medieval times. During those times 'Via Cavour' was known as Via degli Spadai, or Swordsmith Street, as it was flanked by Smiths' Workshops and Forges. However, with the ascent of the Medici family, who lived in the Medici Palace, today Palazzo Medici-Riccardi, obviously the street became very important and was renamed Via Larga, or Large/High Street. During the XIX century the building underwent some renovations in order to make it more suitable to the new standards of living. Between 1851 and 1855 the famous composer Gioacchino Rossini lived in the rooms overlooking Via Cavour, as indicated by the memorial plaque on the façade - unfortunately, the master was already in his late days and his artistic vein had mostly faded - he did however manage to compose or revise some compositions. Hotel Casci was started in 1926 by Mrs. Casci and it was happily welcomed by the local press as the first hotel in Florence with hot and cold water in all rooms. Things have changed since then and it is now bigger and offers a lot more facilities. Since 1990 the management has been undertaken by the Lombardi Family, Armando, Carla and Paolo, who are fluent in several languages and take personal care of their guests. Area Attractions and Activities: The historical part of Florence is all within walking distance, literally a few steps away - the art atmosphere can really be breathed all around and the day will be filled up with all kinds of masterpieces, historical buildings, lovely basilicas, marble statues, great paintings, etc. - just name it!! Its location is one of its main features, only 150 yards from Florence Cathedral and 500 yards from the Railway station, close to all museums and monuments. However, it can easily be reached by car, and the garage is only 200 yards away. This small hotel is very centrally located in a fifteenth century palace and boasts some original fresco ceilings. And if that gets overwhelming, you may always catch a bus to the surrounding hills and villages, to grasp country side views and life-style or enjoy some of the Worlds' best wine and oil tasting. Services: A/C, fridge, direct dial phone, TV, radio, hairdryer, safe box, Wi-Fi, Internet in lobby, tour & car rental desk, concierge reservations, laundry service Most Popular Rooms: All rooms are quiet and have private en suite. |
