Bed and Breakfast Description

A long country stone-house surrounds the large square of the little "borgo", with a terrace & fountain, a "sdrucciolo" (or path to the pool), and a formal Italian sculpture garden & park.

Originally, Poggio al Sorbo was a medieval military tower, in renaissance times it was converted into a "Casa da Signori" to later become a "Borgo" with a vineyard. Today at Poggio al Sorbo high quality wines such as Chianti classico & Vinsanto are produced and in the long country house, guests from all over the world come to stay and enjoy the relaxing Tuscan countryside, full of art, history & culture. Nice walks along the ancient ways in the property.

Guests are invited to visit the wine cellar with a tour and explanations about the making of chianti and other regional varieties grown at Poggio al Sorbo; enjoy a nice wine tasting in the ancient cellar with the stone-vault.

Breakfast is served traditional, Italian style with cappuccino, coffee, tea, chocolate, bread and butter, marmalades & specialties of the area. The meal is served in a pleasant atmosphere with classical and operatic music playing in the background. In summer breakfast is served outside in the ancient square of the borgo.

We offer Cooking Courses (hand made pasta). We also offer Art Lessons (clay modeling and drawing )by the sculptor Luigi Galligani.

Area Attractions and Activities:

A marvelous medieval village awaits your exploration. There are Italian style gardens, a park around the village, a terrace with a fountain, a medieval garden with an old stone well, and a large XVI century portal.

Visit surrounding villages and towns of the Chianti region, San Gimignano, Siena and Florence. Many local vineyards and wineries, handmade Terracotta factories at Impruneta, ceramics factories at Montelupo Fiorentino.

SAN DONATO IN POGGIO. You enter in the village from the "Porta Fiorentina"
(Florentine gates) or "Porta Senese" (Siena gates), you will find a village very
well kept by its inhabitants, still very much anchored to a tuscan and country
tradition.
To visit : Palazzo Malaspina and a renaissance well.
The marvelous Romanesque Parish-church beside the village is a really great monumental building, completely original.
