Once a simple inn offering shelter to merchants and farmers, the Weisses Kreuz now hosts travelers of all nationalities in comfortable and well-furnished guest-rooms. Some modern amenities include private baths, buffet breakfasts and Internet access.

The Weisses Kreuz was first mentioned in the city chronicle 1465. In 1485 Leopold Spiess is the first owner of the inn known by name.Melchior Hiniz, the owner in 1665, commissioned the making of the wrought iron inn sign which to this day hangs outside the hotel. The white Maltese cross symbolizes the hospitality which the Knights of the Maltese Order showed to pilgrims on their journey to the Holy Land.

The vine leaves remind us of the coat of arms of Burgundy which commemorates the wedding of Emperor Maximilian I and Maria of Burgundy.

In 1769 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart stayed at the "Weisses Kreuz."
