Asciano, bed and breakfast: Podere Finerri

Podere Finerri is absolutely peaceful, beautifully restored and furnished with antiques. It is wonderfully located in Tuscany, 25 minutes from Siena, and 75 from Florence. Set just outside Asciano, a little Etruscan and Roman town, where several artistic and historical sites are preserved. Nearby are the noteworthy Abbey of Monteoliveto Maggiore and the Thermal Baths of Rapolano.

It is divided into five rental apartments, each one with private entrance and outside area with pergola table to enjoy meals outside and deck chairs to read a book contemplating the view. Each apartment is finely restored and furnished with a style that reflects the true Tuscan heritage.

There is a pool overlooking miles of countryside. The proprietors live on site and are Daniela, an Italian architect, and Malcolm, a teacher from New Zealand.

    Area Attractions and Activities:

Podere Finerri (320m), is 8 km from the village of Asciano (200m, pop.6340) which is on high ground on the upper Ombrone valley, on the old Via Lauretana.

Having Etruscan and Roman origins, the village was purchased by the Sienese in 1285 and surrounded by walls in 1351.

It still preserves its medieval character despite the town-planning schemes of the Fascist period.
The Romanesque collegiate church of Sant'Agata (11th century) built in travertine, is its most outstanding architectural feature. Adorned with decorative elements of the Lombard type and flanked by a 13th century campanile, it has an aisle less nave with a truss roof.

Adjoining it is the Museo d'Arte Sacra where works by painters of the Sienese school of the 14th and 15th centuries are exhibited. The Museo archeologico contains finds from the excavation of a group of chamber tombs in the nearby cemetery of Poggio Pinci. In 1991 a museum devoted to the artist Amos Cassioli was founded.

    Most Popular Rooms:

Recent remodeled Arco has spectacular views over the Siena hills. The living room is large light fill with a big arch window opening onto the courtyard. The kitchen is fully equipped. The internal furniture is in original 1700-1800's Tuscan country style.

Loggia has an independent access through an old travertine stairway and has a private 1700's loggia with breathtaking views over the Siena hills, peaceful and fresh in the summer, perfect to have a meal or to read a book enjoying the silence. (3bed, 2ba)
