Bed and Breakfast Accommodations

Mountain Equestrian Trails (MET) is a small jungle lodge built within a moist tropical broad leaf forest at the base of the immense and largely pristine Mountain Pine Ridge escarpment. It offers an appealing combination of thatched roof cottages set carefully under the rain forest canopy along the edges of a mountain valley.

The Cabanas are constructed of stucco and hardwoods, with native-style thatched roofs. Each room is decorated with Maya woven tapestries, has a private bath with hot water, and a deck with table and chairs for every room. There is no electricity in the rooms; kerosene lamps provide lighting and exotic ambiance. Mosquito nets, though rarely needed, are provided, so you can leave your windows open and enjoy the cool evening breezes.

The Cantina is the center of action, being a general meeting area, bar, and restaurant. We serve delicious home-style cooking with local entrees, fish, barbeque, pizza, tacos, rice and beans, homemade tortillas, breads, cakes and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, many grown right in the area. We can accommodate most dietary restrictions if notified prior to arrival.

At Mountain Equestrian Trails we love children. There are several children around to play with, and we offer activities children love, such as horseback riding, swimming, hiking, and exploring, or simply enjoying a game of soccer or baseball. Children under 6 are free, and 6-16 are half price for meals. Babysitting available with advance notice.

Mountain Equestrian Trails is an Ecotel Four-Globe Certified Belize Ecotourism Jungle Lodge offering environmental vacations: horseback riding tours, hiking, bird watching, butterfly gardens, waterfalls, river cave exploration, and vehicle tours to Caracol, Xunantunich, Cahal Pech, and Tikal in Guatemala. The favorite full day rides are to the Big Rock Waterfalls in the Mt. Pine Ridge area, and the river cave tour at Barton Creek. Other attractions nearby are the Rio Frio Caves, the Rio On, and the 1000 Foot Falls. There are also many underground caves containing relics of the ancient Maya civilization. Birders will enjoy watching and recording many of the species seen in our area, including Toucans, Parrots, Hummingbirds, colorful Tanagers, and many migrant species. There are miles of interesting hiking trails. The Green Hills Butterfly Ranch is just across the road. Our family-friendly establishment is always ready to customize your package to meet your particular desires.

The Mountain View Cabanas are spacious and comfortable with Maya decor, private bath, tables and Queen-sized beds. Every room has a fantastic view, lush gardens and opportunities for watching colorful tropical birds from the patio.
