There are two double rooms, each with private bathrooms, luxury soaps and towels, wood-burning fireplaces, embroidered sheets, antiques, fresh flowers and complimentary artesian water. A full English-style breakfast is included. Health conscious meals, hand-finished laundry, and private transportation are provided by the friendly, uniformed staff.

Daily chapel services are offered to include the Divine Office, private exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Masses, confessions, devotions and retreats. Your host, Fr. Guilbert Mariani, Chaplain to the Royal House of Portugal, restored Casa Alta to its original ambiance, recapturing its first purpose to provide an elegant, intimate oasis of peace and reflection for pilgrims and casual travelers alike. Whether you are passing through or staying longer, Casa Alta Royal Lodge is open to all creeds or none, and is truly one of the treasures in Portugal.

Area Attractions and Activities:

Visit the world famous Fatima Shrine, museums, and houses of the seers. The last Knights Templar Castle is in nearby Tomar. In the region are interesting castles, the magnificent Batalha Abbey, Alcobaca Monastery, the medieval university town of Coimbra, an extensive escavation of Roman ruins, and an elaborate royal hunting lodge in the forest of Bussaco featuring specimen trees from all over the world brought there by the voyages of dicovery in the 16th century. Casa Alta, itself, is located within the ramparts of the ruined Ourem Castle was considered the gem in the crown of Portuguese castles.
