Cinnamon Mornings and Chocolate Dreams

Ingredients:
3/4 cup walnuts
3/4 cup raisins, light or dark
1/4 cup California Muscatel
2/3 cup shortening (or butter/shortening combination)
1 1/4 cup sugar (or mix it with brown sugar)
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
1 cup canned pumpkin
1 1/2 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ginger

Instructions:

Chop walnuts and then raisins coarsely. Combine with wine. Cream together shortening, sugar and vanilla. Add eggs and beat well. Stir in pumpkin. Mixture will curdle. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. Add to liquid mixture and then add walnuts and raisin mixture. Mix to a moderately stiff dough. Drop from teaspoon onto a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake in 350 degree oven for 15 - 18 minutes. Cool. Top with wine glaze (below).

Wine Glaze:

2 teaspoons soft butter
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons muscatel

Beat together until smooth. Glaze cookies.
