Cinnamon Mornings and Chocolate Dreams

Whether you're hosting a formal get-together or need a quick brunch idea, this book will spark your imagination and your appetite.

Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup boiling water
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
12 oz package chocolate chips
1/2 cup shortening
1 tbsp vanilla
8 oz package of cut dates
1 3/4 cup flour
1 tsp cocoa
1/2 cup ground nuts





Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream together sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla. Set aside. Pour boiling water over dates and add baking soda. Sift together flour, salt and cocoa. Add flour mixture alternately with dates to shortening mixture. Spread mixture into 9x13" loaf pan or in a cake pan. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and ground nuts. Bake for 35 minutes. Sprinkle with confectioner sugar once it's done, while still warm. Cool and slice like cookie bars.
