Ingredients: 1 cup and 1 tbsp. sugar 1/4 cup melted butter pinch of salt 1 well beaten egg 1 cup flour 3 level tbsp. of cocoa 1 tsp. soda 1/2 cup sour cream 1/2 cup hot water Instructions: Cream the first three items together well and add egg. Put the next 3 items in a sifter. Alternate adding the mixture in the sifter to blended ingredients with 1/2 cup sour cream. Finally, add 1/2 cup of hot water (about 1/4 at a time). Cake mixture will be very thin. Pour into a greased and floured square pan (small). Bake at 350 degrees until it begins to pull away from the sides, about 35 minutes. (Cake is small- you may double double the recipe and bake in a 9 x 13 pan.) Notes: This recipe was given to the family by a friend of my grandmother, almost 70 years ago. |
