Ingredients: 2-1/2 cups flour ¾ cup sugar 1 tsp. baking soda ½ tsp. salt Instructions: Mix the above together and cut in 1/2 cup shortening till mixture resembles fine crumbs. Remove 1/3 cup crumbs and set aside. Stir together 1 cup hot water and ½ cup light molasses and add to crumb mixture in bowl. Stir till just blended. Turn batter into a greased 9 inch pan. Sprinkle reserved crumbs over top. Bake 20-30 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Serve warm or cold with whipped cream or ice cream if desired. |
