Ingredients: 6 large baked croissants 1 1/2 cups shredded swiss cheese 8 eggs 3 cups whole milk 2 cups half and half dash white pepper large pinch salt opt: 1 cup ham, cut in small cubes opt: 1 cup blanched broccoli Instructions: Prepare the night before serving: Grease large casserole with grease of your choice, oil, butter or shortening Tear croissants and place in casserole dish sprinkle cheese, and ham and/or broccoli over cheese. Beat eggs, add milk and half and half, salt and pepper. Pour egg mixture over ingredients, making sure that it covers the ingredients, leaving approximately 1/2 inch of space at top as it will rise when baking. Cover with plastic wrap and place in refrigerator overnight. Morning before serving: Remove from refrigerator, remove plastic wrap. Place in center of cold oven, turn oven to Bake at 350 degrees fahrenheit. Bake 45 minutes to 1 hour. Oven temperatures vary. Check to make sure that it does not overcook. Strata will be done when the top is dry, and it springs lightly to touch. Notes: Great recipe for brunch, or a light dinner. Variety of shredded cheeses, meats and vegetables can be substituted depending on your preferences. This recipe does well if you want to cut it for a smaller casserole for two, or doubled for a large crowd |
