Ingredients: Ingredients: 2 Cups flour 1/2 tsp salt To make the bread: 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp baking soda 1 Cup sugar 1 orange 2 Tbsp shortening (Crisco) 1 egg beaten boiling water For french toast 8 eggs beaten 1 tablespoon pure vanilla 1/2 teaspoon of cin. grate some fresh nutmeg ( to taste) Grate the rind of a fresh orange. Optional..touch of Grand Marnier...yummy and of coarse fresh warm maple syrup. Instructions: 1 Cup halved fresh cranberries Preparation: Heat the oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl sift together twice the dry ingredients. Squeeze juice from orange and save in measuring cup. Grate rind of orange and add to juice. Add shortening to juice, and then add enough boiling water to make ¾ Cup. Stir into dry ingredients. Add beaten egg to batter. Fold in cranberries. Pour into prepared loaf pan Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Remove from pan and cool completely before cutting. I make the bread a day or two before. Once the bread is ready cut into 8 1/2 inch slices. Then take french toast ingrediants and blend together, put orange cranberry bread into the mixture and let soak for a few moments. Transfer bread to a griddle and cook on side till golden brown, flip and reapeat. add warm maple syrup and butter to taste. |
