Ingredients: 12 slices sour dough bread 8 oz. Cream cheese 1 C Berries (fresh or frozen) 10 eggs 1/3 C maple syrup 2 C low fat milk Berry Sauce: 1 C water 3/4 C sugar 2 Tbl. corn starch 1 C berries 1 Tbl. butter Instructions: Prepare at least 8 hrs. before serving Remove crusts from bread and cut into cubes. Oil a 9x 13 dish. Spread half of bread cubes in pan. Cut cream cheese into cubes and distribute over bread layer. Spread berries over the cream cheese. Place remaining bread cubes over top. Beat the eggs, syrup and milk together well. Pour over bread. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight. Press down on foil to make sure all bread is soaked. Refrigerate overnight. In morning, preheat oven to 350°. Bake with foil on for 30 min., remove foil and bake an additional 30-min. until center is set and top is lightly browned. Let stand 10 min. before slicing. Serve with Berry Sauce. Berry Sauce Instructions: Stir water, sugar, cornstarch and berries over medium heat until thickened. Add butter and stir until melted. Pour over individual pieces of french toast with a twist of lemon for decoration. |
