Ingredients: 8 oz. margarine (2 cubes) 6 oz. of brown sugar (3/4 cup tightly packed) 6 oz. of white sugar (3/4 cup) 2 lg. eggs 1 tsp vanilla 18 oz. flour (3 1/2 cup unsifted) 1 tsp salt 1 tsp baking soda 12 oz. package of chocolate chips 3/4 to 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional) Instructions: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a separate bowl mix flour, salt, baking soda and set aside. Cream the margarine, granulated sugar and brown sugar. Add the vanilla and eggs and mix just until smooth. Gradually add the flour mixture and mix well. With the amount of flour in this recipe, the batter will be very stiff. This stiffness results in a soft chewy cookie that does not flatten in a hot oven. Stir the chocolate chops and walnuts (if desired) using a strong wooden spoon. Form balls about the size of a walnut and place onto an ungreased cookie sheet. bake for 12 minutes. Let cool for several minutes before removing from the cookie sheet. Makes approximately five dozen cookies. |
